A map allows you to view just over 651 square miles. A map is crafted with eight units of paper and a compass. When first created, the map is blank. In order to fill in the map you must explore the surrounding area first. 
The hatch works exactly like a door except that it opens straight up; a hatch only takes one block of space whereas a regular door takes two. A hatch can only be crafted at a crafting table. The recipe requires six wooden planks and creates two hatches. When placing a hatch make sure that you are facing the direction you want it to open.
